Minecraft seeds are the numbers or phrases that decide what every new world looks like, and the same seed on the same edition and version always builds the same terrain. The 19 below are sorted by what you want to do with them: survive, trade, build or race.
Each one carries the edition and version it was listed for, because a seed is only a recipe and the game version supplies the ingredients. The current Java release is 26.3 “Wilderness Bound”, out since 15 September 2026, so that is the baseline here.
What Minecraft Seeds Are and How to Enter One
A seed is the value the world generator starts from. Create two worlds with the same seed on the same version and edition and the terrain and biomes match, down to where the first tree stands. The value itself carries no meaning, so a seed named after a biome does not give you that biome.
Entering one takes four steps on Java:
- Choose Singleplayer, then Create New World.
- Open the World tab.
- Paste the number into Seed for the World Generator, keeping any minus sign.
- Click Create New World and wait for the spawn area to load.
On Bedrock the seed field lives under the advanced options of the world creation screen. Copy the minus sign too, because -7417157268905316998 and 7417157268905316998 are two different worlds.
Nineteen Minecraft Seeds Compared by Edition, Spawn and Coordinates

Coordinates are written x, z, or x, y, z where a depth matters. Where the same spot is reported at slightly different numbers, the table says to check in game instead of quoting a figure that might send you to the wrong chunk.

Several rows read “26.3-era list” rather than a bare version. Those seeds were listed on pages updated for 26.3 without a version repeated beside each one, so treat them as likely to match and confirm the first screen after loading.
Best Minecraft Survival Seeds
A good survival seed gives you shelter, food and a reason to explore in the first twenty minutes. Four of these do it in different ways.
- -7417157268905316998: a plains village with a ruined portal in it, and a trial chamber sitting under spawn. That puts early trading and a late-game challenge inside the same few hundred blocks.
- -5172090044501194762: a cheese cave opens behind spawn and lets daylight reach diamond depth, with more than a dozen diamonds reported in the cave system.
- -2411331015958581705: a flat island circled by ocean, with sugar cane and an ocean monument tower in sight. Mainland is several hundred blocks away, so boats come first.
- -8065848147699287859: you wake on a shipwreck in open ocean. There is no village to lean on, which makes it the hardest of the four.
The island and the shipwreck both force a boat early, so bring spare wood and a bed in your first trip. If you are collecting equipment for the long run, the enchantments list page sorts what is worth chasing first.
Minecraft Seeds With Villages and Loot at Spawn

Villages cut a survival start in half. You get beds, crops, a blacksmith chest and trades without walking far, and these seeds stack them.
- 8110137054462309706: a village sits 225 blocks east on savanna, with a pillager outpost to the south-east and a second village past 500 blocks.
- 2059666523504992: three villages near spawn, buried diamonds and a ruined portal. Loot tables changed after 1.19, so treat the chest contents as something to check rather than a promise.
- 486362209: four desert villages and at least two pyramids. On Bedrock it generates only two villages and three pyramids, so the Java edition is the one to use.
- -3361685360695458093: four plains villages joined around a lake. It generates this way on Java only.
- 6164093145823335486: Snowy Slopes spawn with a village to the south, an ancient city and an outpost, written for Java 1.21 and newer.
- 8711351291069465520: a taiga spawn with the nearest village 16 blocks east, also Java 1.21 and newer.
Once a village is yours, the next step is trading. The villager trades guide shows which professions are worth keeping and which trades pay for themselves.
Best Minecraft Seeds for Building

Building seeds are judged on terrain rather than loot. You want flat ground, a view, or a natural feature that does half the design work for you.
- 2048005618087379093: a spawn island inside a lake, ringed by cherry grove. An ancient city sits about 232 blocks south, so the pink canopy and a deep dark site share one map.
- -123456793079414942: a large frozen lake with a flat surface for an ice-themed base or a rink.
- 11297487: a cove at spawn with floating land, waterfalls and a ruined portal sitting in the water.
- -3899835130120818196: a plains village beside wide flat plateaus, with cherry and jungle terrain close by for mixed palettes.
- 7226627000711902118: an icy spikes monolith 13 blocks from spawn. It plays better on Bedrock, where a village sits on the monolith itself.

A flat plateau is only half a plan. For shapes and layouts to build on one, the Minecraft house ideas collection has ideas sorted by style.
Minecraft Speedrun Seeds and Why Most Say 1.16
Speedrun seeds are different from the rest, because the world is fixed and the run is the point. Most record runs happen on Java 1.16, before piglin trading rates changed, so a seed built for 1.16 will not give the same layout on 26.3.
- -8717682453392808086: a set-seed world that a world-record holder named lowkey runs on 1.16, with a village beyond 1,100 blocks and two strongholds.
- -6405782700478242821: a set-seed world with a 1:29 record, a village near 184, 168 and a fortress at -69, 123. Play it on 1.16.
- -4496590507308278848: igloo, stronghold, ancient city and fortress in one corner. The version is not stated at source, so test it before you rely on it.
- -1950884254474434485: the seed behind a Glitchless Set Speed record on 1.20 and newer, the only one here for the modern category.
If you only want a quick run of your own, the Java 1.21 seeds in the village section work too. 8711351291069465520 puts a village 16 blocks east and a ruined portal 260 blocks west, which is a short route to the Nether without a set-seed route.
Do These Minecraft Seeds Work on Bedrock?
Partly. Terrain and biomes are the same between Java and Bedrock for the same seed, but villages, temples and strongholds land in different places or are missing. That is why the table names an edition beside every seed.
- 486362209 loses a village and a pyramid on Bedrock.
- -3361685360695458093 generates its four-village lake on Java only.
- 7226627000711902118 improves, with a village on the icy spikes monolith.
Treat any coordinate in the table as a Java coordinate unless the row says otherwise. If you play on Bedrock, load the seed, check the nearest structure yourself, and keep the terrain as the part you can rely on.
How to Pick a Minecraft Seed for Your Playstyle
Decide the job first, then the seed. A long survival world, a build and a race each want something different from spawn.
- New to the game: start with a village seed, because beds, food and trades remove the early grind.
- Wanting a challenge: the shipwreck and the ocean island make you plan before the first night.
- Planning a base: choose the lake or the cove, then add a pack from the texture packs page to set the mood.
- Chasing a record: match the version before the seed, and use 1.16 for the first two.
Whatever you pick, write the seed, the edition and the version in the same note, so the next update does not turn a favourite world into a stranger.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Minecraft seed?
A seed is a number or text value used as the basis for generating every world. Reuse the same seed on the same version and edition and you get the same terrain. Entering words rather than digits turns them into a number first.
How do I enter a seed in Minecraft?
On Java, go to Singleplayer, Create New World, then the World tab, and paste the number into the seed box. On Bedrock, use the advanced options on the world creation screen. Include the minus sign on negative seeds.
Do Java seeds work on Bedrock?
The terrain and biomes match, but structures such as villages, temples and strongholds land elsewhere or are missing. The Java coordinates in this article will not line up on Bedrock.
Why do speedrun seeds say 1.16?
Most record runs are played on 1.16, before piglin trading rates changed. A set-seed run such as -6405782700478242821 needs that exact version, because a newer one builds different structures around the same spawn.
