Fortnite Battle Pass Cost: What You Pay and Get Back

What the Fortnite Battle Pass costs in V-Bucks and dollars, why a finished pass now pays for the next one, what buying levels costs, and when Crew works out cheaper.

Fortnite Battle Pass Cost title card

The Fortnite Battle Pass costs 800 V-Bucks, which is exactly what the $8.99 V-Bucks pack buys, and finishing the pass hands 800 V-Bucks back. A completed pass therefore pays for the next one, so the real money you spend is the first $8.99 and little after it, as long as you reach the last reward before the season closes.

Fortnite is running a short mini-season called Treasure Hunters as of 5 November 2026, with a pass of its own, and the normal pass returns on 5 December 2026. Everything below about price and payout is the standing structure Epic set in March 2026. Dollar figures are US prices, and other regions are charged in their own currency.

What the Fortnite Battle Pass Costs in V-Bucks and Dollars

On 19 March 2026 Epic cut the pass from 1,000 V-Bucks to 800 and, on the same day, made every V-Bucks pack smaller for the same money. Epic said the cost of running Fortnite had gone up and it was raising prices to help pay the bills. The two changes cancel out for one pack and one pack only.

Pack price V-Bucks before 19 March 2026 V-Bucks now Cost per 1,000 V-Bucks now Change in price per V-Buck
$8.99 1,000 800 $11.24 25.0% more per V-Buck
$22.99 2,800 2,400 $9.58 16.7% more per V-Buck
$36.99 5,000 4,500 $8.22 11.1% more per V-Buck
$89.99 13,500 12,500 $7.20 8.0% more per V-Buck
Exact Amount Pack About $0.50 for 50 $0.99 for 50 $19.80 Roughly doubled

The smallest pack lost 200 V-Bucks and the pass lost 200 V-Bucks, so the $8.99 pack still buys exactly one pass with nothing left over. That is the cleanest way to read the price: one pass, one pack, $8.99.

Everything else got dearer. A 2,600 V-Bucks bundle in the Item Shop used to fit inside the $22.99 pack at 2,800 V-Bucks and now does not, because that pack holds 2,400. Epic also confirmed that existing V-Bucks gift cards still redeem at their printed values, and our guide to redeeming Fortnite codes and gift cards covers how to apply one.

Why a Finished Battle Pass Now Pays for the Next One

Until March 2026 the pass was a small profit machine. It cost 1,000 V-Bucks and returned 1,000, with another 500 sitting in the Bonus Rewards track, so each finished season left you 500 V-Bucks ahead. That surplus is gone.

What changed Before 19 March 2026 Since 19 March 2026
Battle Pass price 1,000 V-Bucks 800 V-Bucks
V-Bucks returned for finishing the pass 1,000 800
V-Bucks in the Bonus Rewards track 500 None
Total returned 1,500 800
Net V-Bucks from one completed pass 500 gained Zero, exactly break-even
Battle Bundle (pass plus 25 levels) 2,800 V-Bucks 2,600 V-Bucks

Epic put it plainly: 800 V-Bucks come back for completing the pass, which is enough to buy the next one, and there are no longer any V-Bucks in the Bonus Rewards. At the $8.99-per-800 rate the lost 500 V-Bucks a season was worth about $5.62.

Break-even has two conditions. The returned V-Bucks are scattered through the pass rather than paid as one lump, so stopping at the halfway mark leaves part of the 800 uncollected. And because nothing comes back after the final level, grinding through the Bonus Rewards earns cosmetics only.

What 800 V-Bucks Costs on Each Pack and With Epic Rewards

The $8.99 pack is not the only way to fund a pass, and the bigger packs are cheaper per V-Buck. The catch is that you only get the lower rate by spending money on V-Bucks you then have to use, so the column showing the cost of 800 V-Bucks is a unit price rather than a checkout total.

Pack price V-Bucks Epic Rewards back Cost of 800 V-Bucks at this rate Same, after Epic Rewards
$8.99 800 $1.79 $8.99 $7.20
$22.99 2,400 $4.59 $7.66 $6.13
$36.99 4,500 $7.39 $6.58 $5.26
$89.99 12,500 $17.99 $5.76 $4.61

Epic Rewards returns 20 per cent on Fortnite, Fall Guys and Rocket League purchases made through the Epic Games Store or Epic’s payment system, V-Bucks included. Epic names PC, iOS, Android and web as the places it applies, so console-store purchases are not on that list. On the $8.99 pack the stated rebate is $1.79, which brings one pass down to $7.20.

Buying Levels Instead of Grinding for Them

The Battle Bundle is the pass plus the first 25 levels, instantly, for 2,600 V-Bucks, down from 2,800. Take away the 800 for the pass and the 25 levels cost 1,800, which is 72 V-Bucks each. The in-game level shop has priced a single level at 150 V-Bucks, which would be 3,750 for the same 25, so the bundle saves 1,950.

At the $8.99-per-800 rate the bundle is worth about $29.22. A flat 80,000 XP per level means those 25 levels stand in for 2,000,000 XP of play, so you are paying roughly 0.9 V-Bucks per 1,000 XP. Epic says pass rewards cannot be bought past level 100, which caps how much of a season you can purchase outright.

Buying 2,600 V-Bucks in packs is awkward. The $22.99 pack falls 200 short, and the Exact Amount Pack, at $0.99 for 50 V-Bucks, closes a gap that size in four steps for $3.96. The next pack up, $36.99 for 4,500, leaves 1,900 V-Bucks over for the Item Shop. During a mini-season the bundle may not be offered on the same terms, so read the price on the pass screen before you plan around it.

Fortnite Crew Against Buying the Pass Yourself

Fortnite Crew costs $11.99 a month and includes the Battle Pass, the Music Pass, the LEGO Pass and Rocket Pass Premium. Since the March 2026 price change Crew has also paid 800 V-Bucks a month. The Music Pass and LEGO Pass cost 1,200 V-Bucks each when bought on their own, which is why the bundle looks generous on paper.

The honest test is what you would have bought anyway. Three months of Crew, priced against buying only the V-Bucks and the pass, comes out like this.

Three-month comparison Now, 5 November 2026 From 5 December 2026, new subscriber
Crew cost for three months $35.97 $35.97
V-Bucks received 2,400 (800 a month) 3,200 (1,000, 1,000, then 1,200)
Those V-Bucks priced at the $8.99-per-800 rate $26.97 $35.96
One Battle Pass bought separately $8.99 $8.99
V-Bucks plus pass at separate prices $35.96 $44.95
Crew against buying separately One cent short $8.98 ahead

Today Crew is a dead heat with buying V-Bucks and a pass separately, and everything else in the subscription is a bonus. From 5 December 2026 Epic moves the monthly grant to a ladder of 1,000 V-Bucks for months one and two, 1,200 for months three to five, 1,400 for months six to eleven and 1,600 from month twelve, with the price staying at $11.99. Existing subscribers are placed by their consecutive months in the past 12.

Crew is cheaper only if you would spend roughly $9 a month on V-Bucks regardless. If the pass is all you want, $8.99 once a season beats $11.99 every month. And if you buy the big $89.99 pack at $7.20 per 1,000 V-Bucks, the 3,200 V-Bucks in the table cost $23.04, which shrinks Crew’s lead.

Crew has one rule that the standalone pass does not. For subscriptions that began on or after 1 December 2024, pass rewards granted through Crew can only be claimed while you are subscribed. Epic has also said the monthly Crew Pack outfits end after December’s pack.

What You Keep If You Stop Paying or Stop Playing

A pass has no refund value once a season is over, so it is worth knowing where the edges are before you spend.

  • Claimed rewards stay yours. Anything you have already claimed is permanent.
  • Earned but unclaimed rewards still arrive. If you reached the level but forgot to claim, the rewards land the next time you log in after the season ends.
  • Levels you did not reach are lost. XP progression on that pass stops when the season does, and the V-Bucks sitting in those unreached levels go with it.
  • A finished season cannot be bought. Epic does not sell a pass for a season that has ended and support cannot grant one.
  • Buying late is retroactive. Purchase the pass after levelling and you receive every reward up to your current level at once. Launch Week bonus styles are the exception, because they need the pass to be bought in the first week.
  • The free pass is not useless. You still level up and can pass level 100, but the Bonus Rewards need the paid pass.

Items from a pass can return to the Item Shop no sooner than 18 months after the pass ends, and Epic gives no guarantee that they ever will. The Pass on Sale Right Now, as of 5 November 2026

Fortnite entered a short mini-season called Treasure Hunters on 1 November 2026. It has its own Treasure Hunters Battle Pass, priced at 800 V-Bucks and included with Crew, with Portgas D. Ace and Nico Robin as the headline outfits. Epic’s own Battle Pass page says the normal pass will return next season.

That return date is Saturday 5 December 2026, the day of the Chapter 7 end event. Until then the standard 800-V-Bucks pass is not on sale, so the mini-season pass is the only one you can buy. Its pirate setting is covered in our guide to the Fortnite pirate chest, and the payout shown on its pass screen is the figure to trust for this season.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Fortnite Battle Pass worth it?

For anyone who finishes it, yes, because the 800 V-Bucks that come back cover the next pass. The spend is a single $8.99 pack. It is poor value only if you stop well before the final level, since the V-Bucks are paid out along the way.

How much is the Fortnite Battle Pass in real money?

In the United States it is $8.99, because the pass costs 800 V-Bucks and the $8.99 pack holds exactly 800. Buying from a larger pack lowers the effective price to as little as $5.76, and Epic Rewards takes 20 per cent off where it applies.

Can you get the next Battle Pass for free?

Yes, by finishing the current one. Completing the pass returns 800 V-Bucks, which is the price of the next pass. Crew members get the pass included for as long as they stay subscribed.

Does the Battle Pass still return 1,500 V-Bucks?

No. That ended on 19 March 2026. The pass now returns 800 V-Bucks in total and the Bonus Rewards track no longer holds any V-Bucks.
