Fortnite V-Bucks are the game’s paid currency, and since 19 March 2026 the US packs cost $8.99 for 800, $22.99 for 2,400, $36.99 for 4,500 and $89.99 for 12,500. You can also earn them without paying, through Battle Pass payback, a Fortnite Crew subscription and, for Founders only, Save the World.
Packs shrank in March. The $8.99 pack used to hold 1,000 V-Bucks, so any figure you remember from before that date is out of date. Below are the current prices, the cost per 1,000, five legitimate ways to get V-Bucks, what Crew pays from 5 December, and the limits and scams worth knowing about. All dollar figures are US prices, and other regions see local pricing.
What Fortnite V-Bucks Are and What They Buy

V-Bucks are the single currency behind the Item Shop, the Battle Pass and most of the game’s paid extras. They buy cosmetics only, so no amount of V-Bucks makes you better at winning a match.
The Item Shop rotates daily, and prices vary by item. Emotes in today’s shop cost 300 or 500 V-Bucks: Test of Will, Multi-Punches Flex and Chimichanga! were 300, while Helicopter, Scootin’ and Starting Prance were 500. Outfits, bundles and passes sit above that, and the price on the item’s listing is the one to trust.
Fortnite V-Bucks Pack Prices After the March 2026 Change

Epic announced the change on 10 March 2026 and it took effect on 19 March. Four packs are on sale, plus an Exact Amount pack for topping up a small shortfall. The last column divides the price by the V-Bucks received, which is the number to compare when you are choosing between packs.
| Pack | Price (US) | V-Bucks now | V-Bucks before 19 March | Epic’s bonus label | Epic Rewards back | Price per 1,000 V-Bucks |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Small pack | $8.99 | 800 | 1,000 | None | $1.79 | $11.24 |
| Medium pack | $22.99 | 2,400 | 2,800 | 400 bonus, 20% extra vs the 800 pack | $4.59 | $9.58 |
| Large pack | $36.99 | 4,500 | 5,000 | 1,300 bonus, 40% extra | $7.39 | $8.22 |
| Largest pack | $89.99 | 12,500 | 13,500 | 4,500 bonus, 56% extra | $17.99 | $7.20 |
| Exact Amount pack | $0.99 per 50 | 50 at a time | Not listed here | None | Not listed | $19.80 |
Every pack except the smallest carries a bonus label on Epic’s own V-Bucks page. The 2,400 pack includes 400 bonus V-Bucks, the 4,500 pack includes 1,300 and the 12,500 pack includes 4,500. The Exact Amount pack costs $19.80 per 1,000, which makes it the most expensive way to buy by a wide margin.
The Epic Rewards column is store credit, not V-Bucks. Epic’s page advertises 20 per cent back on V-Bucks pack purchases, and the rebates it states are $1.79, $4.59, $7.39 and $17.99 on the four packs. Gift cards bought before the change still redeem at their printed values.
Why the Same Price Now Buys Fewer V-Bucks

The dollar price of every pack stayed where it was. What moved is the number of V-Bucks inside, and Epic’s stated reason was that the cost of running Fortnite had gone up and it needed to raise prices. The smaller the pack, the harder it was hit.
| Pack | Price (US) | Per 1,000 now | Per 1,000 before | Rise |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Small pack | $8.99 | $11.24 | $8.99 | +25.0% |
| Medium pack | $22.99 | $9.58 | $8.21 | +16.7% |
| Large pack | $36.99 | $8.22 | $7.40 | +11.1% |
| Largest pack | $89.99 | $7.20 | $6.67 | +8.0% |
The smallest pack got 25.0 per cent more expensive per V-Buck, while the largest rose 8.0 per cent. That widens the gap between buying small and buying big: the 12,500 pack is now 36 per cent cheaper per V-Buck than the 800 pack, where before it was 26 per cent cheaper.
The same cut reached passes. The Battle Pass dropped from 1,000 V-Bucks to 800, which matters because the pass also stopped paying out as much. The next section covers what is left of that payback.
Five Legitimate Ways to Get V-Bucks
Nothing on this list involves a website, a generator or a survey. Each one is either a purchase through Epic or a reward inside the game.
- Buy a pack. Packs go through the Epic Games Store, and the four sizes in the table above are the only fixed ones. Match the pack to what you plan to spend, because a bigger pack lowers the price per V-Buck.
- Finish the Battle Pass. The normal pass costs 800 V-Bucks and awards exactly 800 back on completion. The Bonus Rewards track no longer contains V-Bucks, so a completed pass simply pays for the next one. The normal pass returns on 5 December 2026, and a Treasure Hunters pass is live in the meantime.
- Subscribe to Fortnite Crew. Crew costs $11.99 a month and pays a flat 800 V-Bucks every month today. From 5 December the amount depends on how long you have been subscribed, as the Crew section below shows. Fortnite Crew: what is included lists what else the subscription includes.
- Play Save the World as a Founder. The mode became free-to-play on 16 April 2026 on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Cloud and Nintendo Switch 2. Founders keep earning V-Bucks through Daily Quests, Mission Alerts, Storm Shield Defense Missions and existing Challenges. Epic names Founders only, so a player who joined after the switch should not count on V-Bucks from this mode.
- Use a V-Bucks gift card. A card adds V-Bucks at its printed value. The steps for adding one are in the Fortnite code redemption guide, so this article leaves them there.
That is the whole list. A completed Battle Pass and a Crew subscription are the two reliable sources, and a player who finishes every pass and stays subscribed can run for months without buying a single pack.
How Fortnite Crew V-Bucks Change on 5 December
Epic announced the new Crew structure on 4 November 2026. Today every member gets 800 V-Bucks a month. From 5 December the grant rises with your tenure, and the last column shows what the $11.99 subscription costs per 1,000 V-Bucks if you count the V-Bucks alone.
| Crew stage | When it applies | V-Bucks per month | Subscription per 1,000 V-Bucks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Today to 4 December | Flat rate for every member | 800 | $14.99 |
| Core | Months 1 and 2 | 1,000 | $11.99 |
| Bronze | Months 3 to 5 | 1,200 | $9.99 |
| Silver | Months 6 to 11 | 1,400 | $8.56 |
| Gold | Month 12 and beyond | 1,600 | $7.49 |
Passes are what make Crew worth more than that last column suggests. It includes the Battle Pass, the Music Pass, the LEGO Pass and the Rocket Pass Premium, and the Music and LEGO passes are 1,200 V-Bucks each on their own.
- XP boost. From 5 December a Crew member earns 20 per cent more Fortnite XP, and non-Crew players in the same party get 10 per cent. The two boosts do not stack.
- Last monthly outfit. December’s Crew Pack Outfit is the final one in the current scheme.
- Price unchanged. Crew stays at $11.99 a month. Only the V-Bucks grant changes.
What V-Bucks Cannot Do: Trading, Cash-Out and Refunds
V-Bucks are a closed currency. Players regularly ask about moving them around or getting money back, and the answer is almost always no.
| What you might want | Possible? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Trade or gift between players | Not possible | V-Bucks sit in your own wallet only |
| Cash out to a bank or card | Not possible | Epic offers no cash-out route |
| Sell an account that holds V-Bucks | Against the rules | Account sales break Epic’s terms |
| Buy a gameplay advantage | Not possible | Everything they buy is cosmetic |
| Refund a V-Bucks pack | Not possible | Epic’s page states packs are non-refundable |
Cosmetics are different from the pack itself. Epic’s support pages currently describe Return Tickets for items bought in the Item Shop: each account starts with 3, earns 1 more every 365 days, and an item can be returned for up to 30 days after purchase. Bundles come back whole rather than piece by piece, and the current rules are worth rechecking on Epic’s support pages before you rely on them.
A return gives the V-Bucks back to your wallet, not cash to your card. Purchases made through a console or phone store are refunded by that store, not by Epic.
Why Purchased V-Bucks Differ by Platform
Where you buy matters as much as how much you buy. Epic describes a shared wallet across Xbox, PlayStation, Android, Mac, Cloud and PC, so V-Bucks bought or earned on one of those carry across to the others. The items you buy are usable on every platform you play on.
- Nintendo Switch is the exception. V-Bucks purchased on Switch stay on Switch and cannot be spent in the web Item Shop. V-Bucks you earn, through passes and Save the World, are shared everywhere.
- Rewards depend on where you pay. The 20 per cent Epic Rewards banner applies to purchases made through the Epic Games Store. A purchase through a console store may not qualify, so check the checkout screen before you confirm.
- Regions are priced separately. The dollar figures here are US prices. Players elsewhere see local currency on Epic’s V-Bucks page, with the same pack sizes shown as V-Bucks.
If you play on more than one platform, buying through the Epic Games Store keeps the V-Bucks in the widest-reaching wallet and earns the rebate.
How to Spot Free V-Bucks Scams

No site, generator or giveaway outside Epic hands out V-Bucks. Epic sells them through its own store and platform stores, and gives them out through in-game rewards, so anything else is a way to get you to type your login into a fake page.
- Fake giveaways. Offers of a $50 card or a pile of V-Bucks tied to a collaboration end at a lookalike Epic sign-in.
- Locker value calculators. A page that promises to value your cosmetics asks you to sign in to do it.
- Settlement and regulator notices. Messages claiming a refund or an official mandate want your account details first.
- Generators. Using one risks a permanent ban on top of the stolen account.
If you already typed a login into one of these pages, work through these steps in order and do not wait to see whether anything happens:
- Change your Epic password from the real site, not from a link in a message.
- Switch on two-factor authentication. The Fortnite 2FA guide covers the setup.
- Check your email for password-reset or new-device alerts you did not trigger.
- Remove any devices or linked accounts you do not recognise.
- Contact your card issuer if you entered payment details.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much are V-Bucks in the US right now?
The 800 pack costs $8.99, the 2,400 pack $22.99, the 4,500 pack $36.99 and the 12,500 pack $89.99, all since 19 March 2026. The Exact Amount pack sells 50 V-Bucks for $0.99.
Can I get free V-Bucks legitimately?
Yes, but only inside the game. Completing the Battle Pass returns 800, a Crew subscription pays V-Bucks every month, and Save the World Founders earn them from daily quests and missions. No website or generator gives them out.
Can I trade or sell V-Bucks, or get cash back?
No. Epic offers no cash-out and no player-to-player transfer, and selling an account breaks its terms. Cosmetics can go back with a Return Ticket, but that returns V-Bucks, not money.
Do V-Bucks work on every platform?
Earned V-Bucks are shared everywhere, and the items you buy work on every platform you play on. V-Bucks purchased on Nintendo Switch are the exception and stay on Switch.
