The Xiaomi 18 Pro Max Red Transparent Edition is the most expensive version of Xiaomi’s 2026 flagship. It is a red, see-through styled phone sold in China for 10,999 yuan, about $1,642, in one 16GB RAM and 1TB configuration. Inside, it is the same phone as the standard Xiaomi 18 Pro Max, so what the extra money buys is the finish, the software theme and a set of red accessories.
Xiaomi announced the edition on September 23, 2026, alongside the regular 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max, and gave the smaller 18 Pro the same treatment at 9,999 yuan. It is the first transparent-styled flagship from the company since the Mi 10 Ultra Transparent Edition in 2020, a gap of six years.

What the Red Transparent Back Actually Is

On its official product page, Xiaomi describes the back as a red transparent panel of Xiaomi Dragon Crystal Glass 3.0, the same glass family it uses on the front of the phone. Beneath that glass sits a micron-level film that Xiaomi uses to create a three-dimensional relief, so the circuit-style pattern has raised texture rather than looking flat.
Xiaomi’s launch images show what that pattern includes:
- Circuit traces and a component outline running around the Leica camera island
- A large circular coil graphic in the middle of the back, behind the Xiaomi wordmark
- Small chip and connector shapes along the bottom edge, plus a “Limited Edition” marking
- A red aluminum frame that matches the back, so the phone reads as one color from the side
Xiaomi has not said the panel exposes the phone’s real components. It credits the effect to the film layer. Read it as a styled window onto a drawing of the internals, in the spirit of the company’s earlier Explorer and Transparent editions.
Wallpapers and the Red Accessories in the Box

The theme carries over to both screens. The main display and the small rear display ship with custom wallpapers that render the phone’s internal parts in red, so the front of the phone matches the back when the screen is on. On the lock screen, the clock sits over a red drawing of the internal parts.

The retail kit is the other half of the premium. Xiaomi pairs the phone with:
- A red transparent-styled charging brick, shown with a 100W rating in Xiaomi’s packaging photo
- A matching red USB-C data cable
- A red gift box in place of the standard packaging
- A clear protective case, visible in the same packaging photo, which keeps the red back on show
A 100W brick matters here because the phone charges at up to 100W wired. Without a fast brick, a battery of 8,500mAh takes much longer to fill. If you want a spare for travel, our guide to the best power banks for big Android flagships covers USB-C packs that suit a battery this size.
Xiaomi 18 Pro Max Prices for All Five Configurations
| Configuration | Finish | China price | Approx. USD |
|---|---|---|---|
| 12GB + 256GB | Black, white, blue, pink | 6,999 yuan | $1,045 |
| 12GB + 512GB | Black, white, blue, pink | 7,999 yuan | $1,193 |
| 16GB + 512GB | Black, white, blue, pink | 8,999 yuan | $1,343 |
| 16GB + 1TB | Black, white, blue, pink | 9,999 yuan | $1,492 |
| 16GB + 1TB | Red Transparent Edition | 10,999 yuan | $1,642 |
The red edition costs exactly 1,000 yuan more than the standard 16GB and 1TB model, roughly $150. It is also 4,000 yuan above the entry 12GB and 256GB Pro Max, which carries the same chip, cameras and battery. The smaller Xiaomi 18 Pro Transparent Edition sells for 9,999 yuan with the same memory, so the Pro Max version adds 1,000 yuan for the larger screen and battery.
Privacy Display and the Rear Screen
The headline feature of the whole 18 Pro range is a hardware-level privacy mode on the main screen. When it is on, people beside you see a darkened panel while you still see a clear image. It is a built-in version of what a privacy screen protector does on other phones, except it can be switched off when you want a normal viewing angle.
Xiaomi goes further than a single on and off switch:
- Per-app privacy: apps on a privacy list stay protected in notifications, floating windows and the multitasking view
- Location rules: Super XiaoAI can turn privacy on when you reach the office and off when you get home
- One-press control: the customizable AI key on the left side can enable privacy across the whole phone
The rear display returns from the previous generation with more to do. It runs small apps built with Xiao AI, shows widgets and AI-generated wallpapers, and works as a viewfinder so you can frame selfies with the main 200MP camera instead of the front camera. On the red edition it also carries the transparent-style wallpaper.
Leica Cameras Shared With the Standard Model

The camera system is the same Leica-branded triple setup on every Xiaomi 18 Pro Max, red or not. Two of the three rear cameras use 200MP sensors, which is unusual even among 2026 flagships.
- Main: 200MP Light Hunter 960, 1/1.28-inch sensor, 23mm equivalent, f/1.7, optical stabilization
- Periscope telephoto: 200MP, 1/1.56-inch sensor, 75mm equivalent, 3.2x optical zoom, optical stabilization
- Ultrawide: 50MP, 102-degree field of view
- Front: 50MP
Video tops out at 8K at 30 frames per second on the rear cameras, with 4K up to 120 frames per second. The Pro Max also debuts an AI imaging feature Xiaomi calls Legendary Moment, and the camera app adds framing suggestions and pose guidance while you shoot.
Battery, Charging and the Snapdragon Chip
The 8,500mAh silicon-carbon battery is 13 percent larger than the one in the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, and the body stays 8.4 mm thick. Charging runs at 100W wired, 50W wireless and 27W reverse wireless, enough to top up earbuds or a watch from the back of the phone.
Performance comes from the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, built on a 2nm process, with two prime cores clocked at 5.01GHz and an Adreno 850 GPU. Xiaomi pairs it with LPDDR5X memory, UFS 4.1 storage and a circular cold-pump cooling system. For how chips like this hold up under long sessions, see our ranking of the best gaming phones.
Other hardware includes UWB, NFC, Dolby Atmos audio and an aluminum frame, and the phone runs Xiaomi HyperOS 4 with Super XiaoAI 2.0.
Xiaomi’s Transparent Phones Since 2018
The red Xiaomi 18 Pro Max is the latest in a short line of see-through styled phones. Each one tried a different way of showing, or suggesting, what sits under the back glass.
- Mi 8 Explorer Edition (2018): Xiaomi’s first transparent back, criticized at launch because the parts on show were decorative rather than the real board
- Mi 9 Explorer Edition and Mi 9 Transparent Edition (2019): two see-through versions of the Mi 9, the second nicknamed the Battle Angel edition
- Mi 10 Ultra Transparent Edition (2020): announced on August 11, 2020 for Xiaomi’s tenth anniversary, with the outline of internal components on show
- Xiaomi 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max Transparent Editions (2026): red glass with a relief film and matching red accessories, six years after the last one
The 2026 edition is also the first in the line with a second screen on the back, and Xiaomi carries the transparent theme onto that screen too.
Buying the Transparent Edition Outside China
For now the red edition is a China release, priced in yuan and sold through Xiaomi’s Chinese store. Xiaomi has confirmed that the 18 Pro series will launch globally later in 2026, but it has not named dates, markets or prices, and it has not said whether the Transparent Edition will be part of that launch.
If you import one before then, check these points first:
- Software: China-market units run the Chinese build of HyperOS, which does not come with Google Play services set up
- Network bands: confirm the model supports the 4G and 5G bands your carrier uses before paying
- Warranty: a Chinese unit is usually serviced in China, so repairs elsewhere can mean shipping the phone back
- Resale listings: marketplace prices for imported units run above the 10,999 yuan list price, so compare against it
Who the Red Edition Makes Sense For

The standard Xiaomi 18 Pro Max comes in pink, blue, black and white, and every one of them has the same performance as the red phone. That leaves three kinds of buyer for whom the extra 1,000 yuan makes sense:
- Buyers who already want 16GB and 1TB, where the gap to the red edition is smallest
- Collectors of Xiaomi’s Explorer and Transparent editions, a line that went quiet after 2020
- People who keep a phone in a clear case, since the back is the whole point of the design
If you only need 256GB, the 6,999 yuan base model gives you the same chip, the same 200MP cameras and the same 8,500mAh battery for 4,000 yuan less.
