Backrooms games on Roblox are a smaller genre than their reputation suggests. The five below held 14,392 players between them on October 8, 2026 at 17:35 UTC, which is less than a twentieth of what a single mainstream horror game on the platform carries. What the genre has instead is depth: these are the games people go back to for the specific feeling of being somewhere that should not have a corridor.
They also differ more from each other than the shared wallpaper implies. One is a salvage job with a quota, one is a mission board, one is procedurally generated concrete, one is a walk with nothing chasing you, and one is the numbered level run that started it. Each entry below lists what a run actually involves alongside its live player count, like ratio, server size and maturity rating.
The 5 best Backrooms games on Roblox
| # | Game | Run type | Playing now | Per server | Likes | Maturity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Backrooms Company | Co-op salvage | 4,497 | 50 | 88.0% | Mild |
| 2 | The Complex 2 | Procedural expedition | 3,198 | 25 | 93.6% | Minimal |
| 3 | Unseen Liminality | Pure exploration | 3,048 | 15 | 93.7% | Minimal |
| 4 | M.E.G. Endless Reality | Mission runs | 2,994 | 35 | 93.1% | Mild |
| 5 | Apeirophobia | Level run | 655 | 40 | 91.9% | Moderate |
Three of the five launched in 2026 and the ranking is almost the reverse of reputation. Apeirophobia, the best known Backrooms game on Roblox by a distance, sits last on live players and first on every historical measure. Reading both columns together is the only honest way to use this list.
1. Backrooms Company (Co-op salvage): 4,497 playing

Players right now: 4,497 · Lifetime visits: 42 million · Likes: 88.0% · Players per server: 50 · Maturity: Mild · Released: 2026-04-13 · Creator: Devs 4 U Productions
The most played Backrooms game on Roblox and the one that borrows least from the level-run format. You are sent into the lower layers to recover samples and gather evidence, and you have to get back to HQ before things go wrong. Every run is generated differently and what you carry out is what counts.
The developers label it early alpha on its own page and warn about bugs, missing features and rough edges, which is honest for a game holding four and a half thousand players. Fifty per server is the largest capacity here, though a run is a small team. 42 million visits in under six months and an 88.0% rating, but from only 31,918 votes, so treat the number as provisional.

2. The Complex 2 (Procedural expedition): 3,198 playing

Players right now: 3,198 · Lifetime visits: 1 million · Likes: 93.6% · Players per server: 25 · Maturity: Minimal · Released: 2026-07-31 · Creator: The Complex 2
The one built for people who came to the Backrooms through the found footage rather than the wikis. Its page names Kane Pixels and the A-Sync universe directly as the inspiration, and the look follows: procedurally generated concrete and corridor rather than the yellow carpet everyone else renders.
Ten weeks old, so the numbers are thin: 1 million visits and 3,727 votes at 93.6%. It is holding 3,198 players on that tiny history, which is the steepest curve in this five by a long way. Twenty-five per server and rated Minimal. Worth opening now precisely because it is unfinished and changing weekly.
3. Unseen Liminality (Pure exploration): 3,048 playing

Players right now: 3,048 · Lifetime visits: 88 million · Likes: 93.7% · Players per server: 15 · Maturity: Minimal · Released: 2026-03-15 · Creator: The Unseen Zone
The purest exploration game of the five and the only one with no job attached. Its description calls it an exploration game outright: you walk endless hallways, find what is behind the walls, and the line it chooses to quote on its own page is the whole mood, that the more something is remembered the less of it remains.
88 million visits since March 2026 and a 93.7% rating from 161,019 votes, the best rating here on a reasonable sample. Fifteen per server, the smallest capacity in this five, which keeps the hallways quiet. New content arrives roughly every two weeks. If what you want from the Backrooms is the emptiness rather than the chase, this is the pick.

4. M.E.G. Endless Reality (Mission runs): 2,994 playing

Players right now: 2,994 · Lifetime visits: 225 million · Likes: 93.1% · Players per server: 35 · Maturity: Mild · Released: 2024-09-18 · Creator: PUG_Games
The lore-faithful one. M.E.G. is the explorer organisation from the community Backrooms wikis, and here you are one of its employees taking assignments: guide a lost traveller out, close a no-clip zone, document a level. The missions give structure that wandering does not.
Two years old with 225 million visits and a 93.1% rating from 187,535 votes, which is the most settled set of numbers in this five. Thirty-five per server. It is still labelled Alpha by its developers. Choose it if you have read the wikis and want the fiction taken seriously rather than used as set dressing.

5. Apeirophobia (Level run): 655 playing

Players right now: 655 · Lifetime visits: 437 million · Likes: 91.9% · Players per server: 40 · Maturity: Moderate · Released: 2022-07-19 · Creator: Polaroid Studios
The game that made the Backrooms a Roblox genre, and the clearest case on this list of reputation outlasting a player base. You move through numbered levels solving puzzles and hiding from entities, with exploration and documentation as the stated theme. It credits K. Pixels and the Backrooms Wiki on its own page.
It holds 641,230 votes at 91.9% and 437 million visits, more than the other four in this list combined on both counts. It also held 655 players when this list was taken, fewer than any of them. That gap is the story of the genre: the audience that arrived in 2022 has moved on, and what is left is a finished, well-made game with quiet servers. It is the only entry here rated Moderate.
Where the Backrooms came from
The Backrooms began as a single post on 4chan’s paranormal board on 12 May 2019, in a thread asking for images that felt wrong. One reply supplied the idea that everything since has been built on: noclip out of reality in the wrong place and you end up somewhere that is nothing but damp carpet, yellow walls and the hum of fluorescent lights.
The photograph attached to it was taken in June 2002 during a furniture store renovation in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Nobody knew where it came from until May 2024, when a Discord community traced it to an archived HobbyTown USA page from March 2003. An empty retail unit, photographed by accident, became the most reproduced horror image of the decade.
The second wave is why these games exist. In January 2022 Kane Parsons, then sixteen, posted a VHS-styled short called The Backrooms (Found Footage), made in Blender and After Effects. It has passed 90 million views and grew into a 25 episode series with more than 197 million views between them, introducing Async, an organisation that opened portals into the Backrooms in the 1980s. The Complex 2 names that universe on its own page, and Apeirophobia credits him too.
Three more worth opening
None of these is a straight level run, and one of them is the highest rated game in this article.
- Build Your Backrooms, by Wind Sun Moon [WSM], 60 million visits. A builder rather than a horror game: you construct the maze and put monsters in it. The 98.0% rating from 553,377 votes is the highest of any game in this article.
- Interliminality, by Studio308, 93 million visits. A liminal space horror game that gets harder as it runs, with sixty players per server and 93 million visits.
- Shrek in The Backrooms, by The MonkeyMan Fan Club, 639 million visits. The joke one, and the most visited Backrooms game on the platform at 639 million visits. Played for the bit rather than the fear.
Which one to open first
- If you have a group. Backrooms Company. The salvage quota gives four people something to argue about.
- If you came from the YouTube series. The Complex 2, which is the only one chasing that look rather than the wiki look.
- If you want to be alone in it. Unseen Liminality. Fifteen per server and nothing hunting you for long stretches.
- If you have read the wikis. M.E.G. Endless Reality, the only one that treats the lore as a job description.
- If you have never played one. Apeirophobia, because it is finished, and a quiet server suits it.
A practical note on all five: they rely on liminal space and on sound. Headphones change these games more than graphics settings do, and several of the entities in Apeirophobia and M.E.G. are identified by audio before they are visible. If you want the louder, more conventional end of the genre instead, our ranking of the scariest Roblox games covers the chase games.
What to check before a younger player starts
Four of the five are rated Minimal or Mild, which is lower than most horror on the platform, because the fear here comes from emptiness rather than gore.
- Apeirophobia is the Moderate one and the most intense of the five.
- Two are labelled alpha by their own developers. Backrooms Company and M.E.G. Endless Reality both warn about bugs on their pages.
- Sudden loud audio is the genre’s main tool. Volume limits matter more than the maturity rating here.
- Server sizes are small, from fifteen to fifty, so chat exposure is limited.
The aesthetic itself sits inside the wider analog horror movement, which trades on degraded video and institutional documents rather than monsters. That is worth knowing if a younger player asks to watch the source material after playing: the games are gentler than the videos that inspired them. Connection problems during a run are a separate matter, and our guide to Roblox error codes covers what each number means.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best Backrooms game on Roblox?
Apeirophobia is the best made and the best known, with 641,230 votes at 91.9% and 437 million visits. Backrooms Company is the best one to open tonight if you want other people in it, because it holds nearly seven times as many live players.
Are Backrooms games on Roblox scary?
They work on dread rather than shock. Four of the five are rated Minimal or Mild by Roblox, and the fear comes from empty space, repeating corridors and sound. Apeirophobia, rated Moderate, is the only one with sustained chase sequences.
Can you play Backrooms games on Roblox alone?
Yes, and Unseen Liminality and Apeirophobia are both better that way. Backrooms Company is built around a team recovering samples together, so it is the one that suffers most when played solo.
Which Backrooms game follows the real lore?
M.E.G. Endless Reality, which casts you as an employee of the explorer organisation from the community wikis and gives you missions drawn from that fiction. The Complex 2 follows the Kane Pixels found footage continuity instead, which is a separate canon.
