GTA 5 cheat codes still work in every version of Story Mode, from the PS4 and Xbox One releases to the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC editions. A cheat can make you invincible for five minutes, clear a Wanted level, drop a helicopter in front of you or turn the weather on its head, and none of them corrupt a save.
Each cheat below has three inputs: a controller combination for PlayStation and Xbox, a single word for the PC console, and a phone number that works on every platform. They only work in Story Mode, and there has never been a money cheat.
How to Enter GTA 5 Cheat Codes
Cheats unlock once you reach the open world, which on a new save means after the first mission, when you start playing as Franklin. Enter a code and a confirmation appears in the corner of the screen.
On PlayStation or Xbox
- Load into Story Mode and stay in free roam, outside a mission.
- Find the cheat in the tables below and use the column for your console.
- Press the buttons in order, quickly, using the D-pad for every Left, Right, Up and Down.
- Watch the corner of the screen. Check: a notification confirms the cheat is active.
On PC
- Press the tilde key (~), the key to the left of 1 at the top of the keyboard. Check: a text box appears at the bottom of the screen.
- Type the cheat word in capitals, exactly as written in the PC column.
- Press Enter. Check: the confirmation appears, just as it does on a console.
With the in-game phone, on any platform
- Press Up on the D-pad (the up arrow on PC) to take out the phone.
- Press Square on PlayStation, X on Xbox or the spacebar on PC to open the dial pad.
- Key in the full number, including the 1-999 at the start.
- Press the same button again to call. Check: the call connects to a cheat confirmation.
Phone cheats are not saved to the contacts list, so you dial each one again whenever you want it.
GTA 5 Cheat Codes for Health, Wanted Level and Weapons

GTA 5 Vehicle Spawn Cheats
A vehicle cheat drops the car, bike or aircraft right beside you. Aircraft need open ground, so call the Buzzard, Mallard or Duster from a road or a field rather than a narrow street.

Director Mode has no controller combination. Type JRTALENT on PC or dial 1-999-5782-5368 on any platform to open it. Director Mode lets you play as a cast of characters around Los Santos and stage scenes of your own.
Vehicle Cheats You Have to Unlock First
Three spawns only respond once you have found the vehicle in Story Mode. They have no controller combination, so on PlayStation and Xbox the phone is the only way in.
| Cheat | Unlock it by | PC | Phone |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spawn Duke O’Death | Complete the Duel random event first | DEATHCAR | 1-999-3328-4227 |
| Spawn Dodo seaplane | Complete the Sea Plane random event first | EXTINCT | 1-999-398-4628 |

What Cheats Do to Achievements and Your Save
Rockstar sets out the rules in its support note on GTA V cheat codes, and they are gentler than in earlier Grand Theft Auto games.
- Achievements and Trophies pause, they are not lost. Cheats disable them for the current session only. Reloading a save or restarting the game brings them back.
- Saving still works. You can save with a cheat active, and the save is not flagged or damaged.
- Missions switch cheats off. Starting a mission cancels any off-mission cheat that was running.
- Some places refuse cheats. The game shows “Cheat Denied: Cannot activate that cheat right now” when a cheat is blocked in that moment.
- Entering a cheat twice usually turns it off, though Rockstar notes that this does not work for every cheat.
Save before you start, then reload that clean save when you want achievements back. GTA 5 first launched in 2013, and the same codes have carried across every release since.
Why a GTA 5 Cheat Is Not Working
- You are too slow. Button cheats need to be entered in one quick run without pausing between presses.
- You used the analog stick. Directions only count on the D-pad.
- You are in a mission or in GTA Online. Cheats work only in Story Mode free roam.
- You are using the wrong platform column. PlayStation and Xbox layouts are not interchangeable, even where the pattern looks similar.
- The vehicle is not unlocked yet. The Duke O'Death, Dodo and Kraken need their Story Mode event finished first.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a money cheat in GTA 5?
No. No version of GTA 5 has ever had a cheat for cash. Story Mode money comes from missions, heists, robberies and the stock market.
Do GTA 5 cheats work in GTA Online?
No. Every cheat is limited to Story Mode, and entering one in GTA Online does nothing.
Do cheats disable trophies and achievements in GTA 5?
Only for the session you used them in. Reload a save or restart the game and trophies and achievements can be earned again.
How do you turn off a GTA 5 cheat?
Enter the same cheat again, which works for most of them. Starting a mission, reloading a save or restarting the game turns every cheat off.
